But we were thinking it should look more like this (but with a grill of course!):
Because our grill looks so sad and lonely in our porch. It's dying to get out of that box and grill up some burgers and steaks!
We did our research and this definitely is a project that we can do ourselves. I read all about it when my favorite house blog did their patio (http://www.younghouselove.com/2011/05/can-you-dig-it/) and we watched a series of Lowes videos about how to do it.
The first thing we had to do was to get out all those bushes. As I mentioned in previous posts Elliott chainsawed down the bushes and then we dug out the roots. So after all that work the space behind the back of our house looks like this:
We looked for pavers at Home Depot and Lowes but when we saw an add in a Menards flyer we found the winners. They were having a sale on a specific paver, making it $.29 per brick. That sounded perfect to us. So we headed up there and found the pavers. After debating for a little while we decided on the Mocha color. We thought it would look best against our house.
Menards made it super easy to start this project. When we got there they had a computer that would take all the project specifics like size and pattern, and it would figure out exactly how many bricks and how much sand we needed. We then were able to print out a detailed plan which the cashier scanned to put all the supplies on order! Super easy! A couple weeks later the bricks and sand were delivered to our house.
And that's where they still are today. Before we can start this project we need to finish ripping up the roots. Unfortunately we've lost a little of our momentum in that department. The goal is to get the patio done by the 4th of July. Lets see if we can make it happen!
